West Mill in Colinton, Edinburgh, is a stunning, bespoke building within a leafy suburb, surrounded by parkland, providing a tranquil, secluded setting within Scotland's capital city. In keeping with the building design, Capvond Composites were asked to produce Slimline Cast Composite Sills to compliment and contrast the external finish of dry dash and natural stone used in the development.

Manufactured in a lightly textured anthracite grey, in lengths of up to 2.6m, Capvond Composites's Cast Composite Sills blend naturally into the design, and provide a sharp, clean definition between the polar white dry dash and the natural sandstone, defining the textures of each element to highlight the cleverly designed combination of materials.

The sills were used not only below the windows and feature louvres, but also as a wall capping in the small amenity building within the grounds of West Mill itself.

Lightweight, and very easy to cut to size using standard site tools, Capvond Composites's Cast Composite Sills were used throughout the development, and with a flexural strength almost three times stronger than cast concrete, large sills could be carried by one person around the site without damage. The lightweight properties and high damage resistance was critical, in what was a very compact site which demanded a very high degree of engineering excellence and organisation.
