Situated in the beautiful coastal town of North Berwick, Tantallon Court is a commanding new development from the UK's Number 1 provided of retirement and assisted living homes, McCarthy & Stone.
With design elements which cleverly reflect the historical past of North Berwick and Berwick upon Tweed, the imposing watchtower design on the corner, blends seamlessly on either side into traditional coastal apartments.
Red Sandstone, used widely in the area, reflects the swathes of red soil in the farmland of the surrounding Borders of Scotland, and the contrast with the white render walls is quite simply stunning.
Capvond Composites were thrilled to be asked to provide their Cast Composite Copes and be again part of the McCarthy & Stone supply chain. A mono-pitch design was considered ideal for this project, and manufactured using Capvond Composites's Red Multi Cast Composite, created specifically to match a quality cut Red Sandstone. Apex copes, 800mm straight copes and "Crow's feet" were all supplied to complete this project.
Mechanically fixed through the top of the cope, with four fixings; two at either end, and sealed with the same composite used to manufacture the copes by the fitters on site. The copes provide sharp clean lines which highlight the profile of the building.
The requirement for stone repairs and recoating of stone features, often expected during construction, was completely eradicated due to the lightweight and superior strength of the composite; reducing time and cost.
Sills, mullions, quoins, door surrounds, window surrounds, plaques and surface mounted lintels, are all now available using the same casting system.
Light weight Cast Composite coping stones reducing manual handling. Weight circa 5-10kg more than 80% less than traditional stone (circa 50-60kg). Reduction also in RCS (silica dust) health hazard.
