Set in a stunning Location within fifteen acres of mature private grounds with a fantastic view over Portree Bay towards the majestic Cuillin Mountain Range, award winning four star Cuillin Hills hotel is luxury country house hotel on the beautiful Isle of Skye.
At the beginning of 2017 Compass Building and Construction Ltd carried out the daunting task of extending the front elevation of the hotel, creating an almost complete mirror image of the existing building.
Capvond Composites were delighted when Marc Swanson the contract manager for the project approached them to replicate the dormer details of the new extension.
A site visit in late January was arranged, with exact sizes and detail taken from the original stone features, which included carved stone sunflower finials at the apex of each dormer.
Moulding for the classical dormer front elevation and cope was manufactured using a GRP Composite, which provided a very lightweight, strong structure which could easily be lifted into position.
The detailed sunflower finial was manufactured using our Cast Composite moulding system. An exact replica was recreated within our factory from pictures and dimensions taken on site. The replica template from which the working mould would be made, was carved from a high density polyurethane foam, sealed then finished to provide a stone texture similar to the original. The working mould was then manufactured from this sculpted finial.
Cast in a lightweight Cast Composite, these solid finial reflect the patterns, flaws and texture of the finials on the oldest part of the hotel, and provide a flowing continuity across the entire front elevation of the Cuillin Hills Hotel looking out over the stunning inlet from The Sound of Rassay and the famous town of Portree.
